👋 A Note from Jason
Quick update on Haunted Hustle: last issue had it on Oct. 17, but weather pushed the whole night to this Saturday, Oct. 24. Same lineup at the Gulf Place Town Green: Wicked Walk Costume Parade at 6:00, Monster Mash Dash at 6:30, and the 5K at 7:00. Prices step up after Friday, Oct. 23 at 11:59 PM, so the lower rate is good through Friday night.
Saturday morning is the Prodisee Pantry Turkey Trot in Daphne (5K at 8:00, 1-mile at 9:00), so you can run the morning and still have time to put together a costume. Then November kicks in: Magnolia Run and the Paddle & Racket Battle on the 7th, and a crowded 14th with the Spud Run, the Oyster Run, a mud run in Foley, and a charity ride.
NYC goes Sunday, Nov. 1, and there's a new Gulf Shores marathon on the radar for January.
Let's get into it. 👇
🤯 Wait — Did You See This?!?!
The Picklr, one of the fastest-growing indoor pickleball chains in the country, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, announced Oct. 10. The cause wasn't a drop in players. The parent company had signed corporate guarantees on the leases of about 40 franchise locations, and that burden got too big. CEO Jorge Barragan took responsibility: "We signed, unfortunately, too many corporate guarantees that landed on the holding company. And that's on us."
The filing covers only the parent company, not the individual clubs. The Picklr, which has more than 70 U.S. locations, says its clubs are open and its members are playing, though the CEO expects some contraction over the next 18 months to two years.

🏅 MARATHON WATCH
A recurring look at the Abbott World Marathon Majors and any regional marathons worth a training plan.
The Majors:
NYC Marathon — Sun. Nov 1, less than two weeks out. Defending champs Benson Kipruto (PB 2:02:16) and Hellen Obiri return, with Olympic champ Sifan Hassan on the women's side. Ethiopia's Deresa Geleta (PB 2:02:38) is in the men's field, along with American record holder Conner Mantz, running his first marathon since setting the record in Chicago last year after a run of injuries. Mantz says the goal is "to get to the start line 100% healthy." Zouhair Talbi, fifth at Boston in 2:03:45, rounds out the U.S. men. The race doubles as a look ahead to the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials on March 25, 2028, in St. Louis.
Worth the drive if you're training for a winter marathon:
Keesler Federal Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon — Sat–Sun. Dec 12–13, 2026 · Biloxi, MS (worth the drive). Full and half marathon distances. About eight and a half weeks out — if you haven't started building, the half is the more realistic target.

The marathon follows the paved trail system through Gulf State Park and is a USATF-certified Boston Qualifier. The weekend also has a half marathon, 5K, and an untimed family fun run.
